The Atlanta Falcons are in full offseason mode, looking for a new head coach and (presumably) a new quarterback for the 2024 season. What better way to generate excitement in Atlanta than to land the starting quarterback of the NFC East champion Dallas Cowboys?

Seems far-fetched? Perhaps, but that potential move received some attention on ESPN’s “Get Up” on Wednesday.

The discussion began with Prescott’s present leverage with the Cowboys, and host Mike Greenberg threw a softball to analyst Jeff Saturday, who finally brought up the Falcons.

“No one has ever had the leverage that Dak Prescott has,” Greenberg added. “His cap hit next season is $59 million, and it’s the final year of his contract. He has no franchise tag clause and has final say over all moves. Has complete authority in a way that no football player has ever had, including free agents.

“They do not get to define their own market. His is already valued at $59 million. So Dak needs to go into Jerry Jones’ office and say, “This is where I want to go.” ‘Trade me there right now. And, Jeff, you know exactly where it should be.

“The Atlanta Falcons,” Saturday answered. “Go in there with your papers today. You have a lot of talent. Hopefully, Bill Belichick or someone else will take over as coach. They play well on defense, have weapons on offensively, and you’re talking about a player that can go in and command that level of energy.”

Prescott’s acquisition would almost probably address the Falcons’ quarterback dilemma. Despite the Cowboys’ unceremonious Wild Card loss from the playoffs this season, Dak threw for more than 4,500 yards, 36 touchdowns, and nine interceptions throughout the 2023 regular season.

Again, the concept may be a touch extreme, but if the Falcons want to swing for the fences, why not go all in and sign the quarterback from “America’s Team?”
