Celtic now ready to accept offer for “brilliant” in-demand player

In 2024, there appears to be a major shake-up in Celtic’s goalkeeping ranks. Since Joe Hart’s contract with the team

is about to expire, it appears that Brendan Rodgers would like to hire a new player rather than relying on Scott Bain

or Benjamin Siegrist to take over in his place should he decide to depart.

Because of this, the Hoops are apparently considering a loan-to-buy arrangement with Liverpool for Caoimhin

Kelleher, who may fetch a record-breaking price for the team. Siegrist may follow Hart to the Parkhead exit door in

the meanwhile.

Celtic prepared to let go of Siegrist

Before the January transfer window expires, Celtic are prepared to loan Siegrist out, according to Football Insider.

The Hoops are willing to accept a realistic offer if one comes in within the remaining time, and he will undoubtedly

let his suitors know that.

Since January, a number of European clubs have been considering making a move for Siegrist; word of his loan

availability will notify those clubs. It merely needs to wait to see who initiates contact.

Siegrist merited more opportunities.

One may argue that Siegrist’s lack of prominence at Celtic is surprising. After what Dundee United manager Ange

Postecoglou described as “fantastic” performances, he was signed in 2022 on a free transfer and appeared ready to

fight for the top spot.

Siegrist had appeared in 145 United games, giving up exactly one goal on average each game while also going over 50

goals without a let up (52). He was in the top four in the league in shutout totals in three of his four seasons, setting

the bar with 12 in 2019–20 to help his team advance.

The next year, he would equal that total in the Scottish Premiership and make 130 saves, more than any other goalie

in the division. It was hardly surprising that he won United’s player of the year and players’ player of the year

accolades because his save percentage of 78.2 was also the second-best.

In his last season at Tannadice, he maintained his position in both categories as well, placing fourth in terms of total

saves (101) and sixth in terms of save percentage (72.7). The former manager of the player, Micky Mellon, described

him as a “brilliant goalkeeper” and attributed his success to practicing “like a monster”.
