Journalist Daniel Storey claims that David Moyes ‘created some discomfort’ among West Ham supporters when

he named Divin Mubama among the replacements against Burnley.

Danny Ings was chosen over Mubama in Moyes’ starting lineup,

despite the unavailability of Jarrod Bowen and Michail Antonio due to injuries at Turf Moor.

But the 19-year-old was brought on shortly after the hour, and he contributed significantly to

West Ham’s equaliser as his team went on to win 2-1 in the closing minutes.

Storey stated: “Divin Mubama is their superstar academy forward who is out of contract at

the end of the season” while speaking on the Totally Football Show [November 27, 59m 58s].

“He’s not signed a new contract because he wants more playing time, but fans were a little uncomfortable when he was benched for Danny Ings over the weekend.”

When talking about Mubama’s influence coming off the bench for replacements, Storey continued,

“Hopefully that means he gets to start now.”

When the team sheet was revealed on Saturday, November 25,

it was disheartening to see Ings’ name rather than Mubama’s in the starting lineup.

Nine months ago, Ings cost West Ham £15 million to sign from Aston Villa [Sky Sports],

but he hasn’t done much to indicate that he can be a productive player for the Hammers.

Moyes is in dire need of a line leader, at least until January,

as Antonio has also performed poorly this season while healthy.

Obama appears to be that man, and his performance over the last 30 minutes of

the weekend validated the requests of numerous people for him to take the lead.

Even though Mubama’s move in the box allowed United to tie the score,

the goal would not have been possible without it.

Given that Antonio is gone for the foreseeable future and that Bowen is best deployed wide,

Mubama will undoubtedly start against Backa Topola on Thursday, November 20.

The academy graduate will probably keep his spot on the team and maybe even be

convinced to sign a new deal if he plays well in that match.
