The Detroit Red Wings are exerting every effort to advance and secure a postseason spot.

With their improved play of late, the Red Wings’ chances of making the playoffs have grown significantly;

nevertheless, they are depending on another Detroit sports club.

The Detroit Lions are playing at a good level while the Detroit Red Wings are

still trying to qualify for the 2023–24 postseason. In addition to qualifying for the postseason,

they triumphed over the Los Angeles Rams and former Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford on Super Wildcard Weekend.

The city has come alive to cheer the Honolulu Blue team,

who play at Ford Field, just around the corner from Little Caesars Arena,

and the Lions are in high spirits. It’s no secret that several Red Wings players enjoy watching Lions football,

particularly when the team is in the postseason.

It should be expected given the number of local products that have players

who were born in Michigan on their roster or who played in Michigan when

they were younger for the USNTDP or any other program, school,

or amateur team situated in Michigan. The Lions’ success must be envied by the Red Wings,

who are hopeful that, with the right circumstances, they too may achieve the same feat later this spring.

The Detroit Red Wings are hoping that, like the Lions, the city will come alive for them.

The Red Wings changed their Sunday schedule to accommodate the Lions game,

even though it may not have been the coaches’ or players’ fault.

It also may not have been the league’s or the city’s.

The Lions are hosting another home playoff game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, beginning at 3 PM ET,

but the Red Wings game was initially scheduled as a matinee.

That said, the Red Wings are squaring off with the Tampa Bay Lightning (what a coincidence),

but the game has been pushed to 7 PM ET.

This means the Red Wings should be able to catch the Lions game and cheer on their brothers on the gridiron.

It’s got the potential to be an awesome Sunday,

especially after last Sunday when the Red Wings squeaked out a tight win against

the Toronto Maple Leafs as the Lions defeated the Rams.

The Lions-Red Wings connection is only growing, too.

One of 97.1 The Ticket’s Audacy articles recently featured a piece talking about Alex DeBrincat being out to dinner,

seeing Lions players Penei Sewell and Jerry Jacobs.

While Sewell did not recognize DeBrincat, he’s hoping to meet DeBrincat sometime soon.

The article goes on to talk about how the players stayed in the locker room to watch

the game after Sunday’s win in Toronto and how the coaching staff are

just as big of Lions fans as the players seem to be,

hinting that the Red Wings video guys are the biggest Lions fans out there.

Even the well-known Buffalo Bills fan Coach Derek Lalonde has begun to support Dan Campbell and the Lions.

The Red Wings may have a big game this Sunday, but they and most Metro Detroiters will be equally focused on the Lions game.

Together, let’s have a fantastic Sunday in the Motor City.
