Just in: Brendan Rodgers ”PLANS” set for a busy summer as he reshapes Celtic squad

After Celtic finished a double-winning season, we should be concentrating on building a team that can

compete in the Champions League the next year.

Although I think there is a growing need for it at our club, the preparation work that has gone into assembling such a

squad over the previous few seasons has been extremely suspect.

The only conclusion that can be drawn from comparing our probable current situation to the 25-man Champions

League team from the previous season is the amount of work that needs to be done in the summer to address this ongoing problem at our club.

We already won’t have Hart, Philips, Turnbull, or Abada from the team from last season. Include Oh and Lagerbielke,

who also don’t appear to be in Rodgers’ long-term plans. Furthermore, we are still in the dark about the whereabouts of

O’Riley, Bernardo, Bain, and Mikey Johnston, as well as the rumors involving Kyogo, which The Celtic Star immediately

pointed out to be absurd.So, is it possible that more than ten players from our CL team from the previous season will be added to the

roster for this forthcoming campaign?

Although our team still has a strong desire to begin producing results at the Champions League level,

Brendan Rodgers will face significant challenges in trying to do this given the amount of players that have left in only one year.

He is aware that in order for us to succeed in the coming seasons, we must strengthen our team and achieve some

degree of consistency within it. This summer is the deadline for completing that task.

Along with not being able to field our strongest 11 as a starting lineup in any of our Champions League games over the previous three seasons, that steadiness has been lacking for a number of seasons.

The theory is still the same: if the Champions League squad is assembled correctly,

it will be far too good to compete with anything in Scottish football, giving Celtic domestic dominance and fueling the

team’s annual aspirations to advance farther into the Champions League.

Given the numerous inconsistencies that resulted from Ange Postecoglou’s replacement by Brendan Rodgers,

I would characterize the previous season as a transitional one. Even though

Rodgers’ outstanding managerial abilities helped the team succeed at the end of the season, the changeover never went as

smoothly as the club may have anticipated. That ultimately put an end to any lingering animosity around his return to Celtic,

and moving ahead, unity can only be beneficial.

I anticipate that under Rodgers, the off-season preparations will be handled far better than they were a year ago,

when Postecoglou had been aware of his impending departure for several months, and Celtic was most likely also aware of it.

The  large number of project signings didn’t really work out and that’s hardly surprising as the managerial eye of clearly off the ball.

In order to construct that CL-ready squad this summer, there is a good lot of work to be done. Finding eight homegrown

players to integrate into the team continues to be a huge challenge for us in order to ever reach the necessary caliber.

That does not, however, excuse the disparity in talent between each position’s first and second choices. That disparity

was frequently demonstrated to be far too great for comfort during the just concluded season, which led to the league losing a

great deal of needless points.

In order to provide competence, depth, and quality within our team and to cover any potential player absences due to injury,

this gap must be drastically closed this summer. The absence of protection  in central defence, at left back and even on goals has been a concern and you could add other positions there too.
