Another embarrassment: Everton-777 issue emerges as MSP loans due for repayment
Kieran Maguire highlights ‘separate issue’ for Everton if 777 Partners takeover fails
According to Kieran Maguire, Everton may have more financial difficulties in the future as it is anticipated that 777
Partners would withdraw from consideration to purchase the team.
The finance expert talked about the financing the Blues received from MSP Capital on The Price of
Football podcast (30 May), noting that it is doubtful that the US investment company will complete a takeover.
Maguire hinted that MSP might take over as 777’s new owners when the loan repayment reached a timeframe
akin to the one established by Farhad Moshiri.
“Moshiri has reportedly set a deadline of May 31st,” he stated. There is mounting evidence that 777 is
unable to abide by the regulations established by the Premier League.
If 777 had the funds and the proof of their sources, they could have simply taken care of that, but they have
utterly failed to deliver.
“777 has a different problem in that Everton isn’t showing any signs of being able to repay its loans from MSP,
which are due at the end of this month. Does that imply that MSP take over the club?”
Is it possible for MSP Capital to acquire Everton?
Despite more than eight months of negotiations between Moshiri and 777 Partners, Everton’s takeover drama
has continued for the most part of the past year and doesn’t appear to be near to being finalized.
Maguire also points out a difficult problem to solve. Who is going to reimburse MSP for the money
owed if 777 is unable to close their deal? It is difficult to see how Everton can begin paying MSP back without outside funding
The Premier League’s owners and directors’ tests have not yet been met by 777, which has
hindered their ability to finish the club’s takeover.
Only 777 can be held accountable; they have had the opportunity to present the proof and demonstrate
their financial support for the club, but they have chosen not to do so.
Maguire stated that while MSP may not be eager to take on day-to-day management of Everton, they shouldn’t
be shocked if the New York group steps in to fill the void if they have concerns about the club’s capacity to repay its debts.
