Celtics injury report: starter ruled out vs. Spurs Sunday
When the Celtics play the Spurs on
Sunday, they will have a lot of
reinforcements, but Jrue Holiday, their
starting guard, won’t be there. Owing to a
sprained elbow, the team declared the
veteran out Sunday night, just before tip.
In Friday’s victory over the Raptors,
Holiday persevered despite the ailment.
Despite Holiday’s absence, Boston will be
in good shape against San Antonio across
the rest of the roster. Al Horford,
Kristaps Porzingis and Jayson Tatum will
all return to the lineup after sitting out
Friday’s win, the tail end of a back-to-
back matchup. Their returns will make
Boston heavy favorites against a Spurs
team that is an ugly 5-26 to begin the
year despite the strong play of No. 1 pick
Victor Wembanyama who is averaging a double-double this season.
When the Spurs play Boston on Sunday
night to begin a two-game road trip,
Keldon Johnson (back spasms) and Zach
Collins (illness) will be sidelined. The
Celtics have won five games overall and
three games on the road in a row to start
the season with a league-best 25-6 record.
This season, the Celtics are 0–1 while
Holiday is not available. He sprained his
ankle and missed two games in November.
The 2023 season finale for both clubs will
begin at 7 p.m. ET between Boston and San Antonio.
