Roger Federer’s former coach would ‘love to see Rafael Nadal give Novak Djokovic some heat’
Ivan Ljubicic, the former coach of Roger Federer, has stated that he hopes to see Rafael Nadal again in 2024
so he can give Novak Djokovic “some heat.”
The former world No. 3 called Djokovic “amazing” and said it was “amazing”
that the Serbian icon still had the same physical attributes as he did ten years ago.
From 2016 until his retirement in 2022, Ljubicic coached Djokovic’s fiercest opponent,
Roger Federer, the Swiss legend who won his 18th, 19th, and 20th Grand Slam championships.
In an incredible 2023 season, Djokovic won the Adelaide ATP 250, two Masters 1000 tournaments,
three of the four Grand Slam events, and the ATP Finals.
After surpassing Rafael Nadal’s record of 22 Grand Slam titles with his victory at the French Open,
the 36-year-old secured a record-extending 24th Grand Slam trophy in September of 2023 at the US Open.
Nadal’s 14th championship in the 2022 French Open was his most recent
Grand Slam triumph and any kind of tournament win.
The legendary 37-year-old hasn’t competed since he suffered a hip injury during
his 2023 Australian Open second round loss to Mackenzie McDonald in January.
Prior to the 2024 Australian Open, the Spaniard is scheduled to make his comeback at
the Brisbane International, an ATP 250 event that takes place from December 31 to January 7.
In 2023, Djokovic won her tenth Australian Open title in straight sets over Stefanos Tsitsipas,
but in the Melbourne Grand Slam of 2022,
Rafael Nadal defeated Daniil Medvedev in a five-set final.
When asked about the tennis GOAT controversy,
Ljubicic emphasised Djokovic’s statistical superiority and his reputation as the player to beat,
but he also stated that he believes Nadal can challenge the Serbian in 2024.
“On the male side, at least, I believe Novak to be the most successful. In an ATP Tennis Radio Podcast episode, the Croatian stated, “He keeps winning, he is not stopping, and I am really curious and I will love to see Rafa back in 2024 to give him some heat.”
Thus, we continue to discuss it. Novak is amazing. It’s amazing that, considering his age, you can still recognise the same player when you compare the way he plays now to ten years ago.
During a brilliant 14-year professional career that ran from 1998 to 2012, Ljubicic won 10 ATP titles.
