‘He does it against big teams’: John Hartson says Celtic would ‘love’ to sign 16-goal star
John Hartson believes Lawrence Shankland would be a wonderful addition to Celtic,
but his price tag appears to be rising daily.
The 28-year-old is becoming as one of the best players in the Scottish Premiership, and on Wednesday night, he elevated his game even further by winning the game for Hearts in stoppage time against fierce rivals Hibernian.
Although Hearts supporters will continue to rejoice after their team’s victory in the Edinburgh derby last night, Lawrence Shankland’s likelihood of leaving during the January transfer window is likely to grow.
According to John Hartson, who spoke with Go Radio, those at Parkhead would “love” a player such as the Scotland star, since Celtic and Brendan Rodgers are searching for attacking quality.
Lawrence Shankland now has 16 goals overall this season, including 11 in the league after his score against Hibernian last night.
For a player who is at the top of his career and scoring goals in the biggest games, those are some really impressive figures. The most recent being an amazing curler with a left foot.
John Hartson wouldn’t mind seeing the highly sought-after player dressed in Celtic colours for this reason.
The future of Lawrence Shankland
“Since you are getting a Scottish center-forward at a decent age—what is he, 27 or 28—either side could be in for him.” stated Hartson.
Achieves objectives. Just having fun scoring goals at Dundee United. For Hearts, he has been doing this. The issue is that as long as he continues to score goals, other teams will find him more expensive. Well done, sir.
“I have no doubt that Celtic would adore a player of his calibre and his inherent ability to score goals. He also does it against the elite teams. He would make a fantastic signing, in my opinion.
The question that would be on everyone’s mind. For him, what would Hearts want? I’m not sure how long his contract is set to last. He is 28 years old. No longer 21 or 22. Still a very favourable age. A forward at a really good age. You want to use these years to reach your peak.
January transfer window for Celtic
Rodgers will be in trouble since Kyogo Furuhashi and Hyeongyu Oh, the front two, are probably going to depart for the Asian Cup games in January.
Despite having both players on staff, there has been discussion about Celtic needing to add more talent following the season’s mediocre beginning.
Shankland is one of the top attacking players in the Premiership this season, therefore if he is on Celtic’s transfer list, he needs to be regarded seriously.
Because of his age, the player himself is at the point when it will either happen now or never.
And Shankland checks off another box since Rodgers is searching for that demonstrated quality.
