‘I hate that it happened…’ Steve Kerr gets HONEST about Jordan Poole’s sudden departure from Warriors
It will be Jordan Poole’s first visit back to the Chase Center following his trade to the Washington Wizards.
An altercation with Draymond Green throughout the season seemingly wrecked the locker room harmony,
leading to the trade of the former Golden State Warriors guard.
Kerr declared
The Warriors acknowledged that their playoff departure from the previous season was partially caused by
the Green-Poole incident. The entire group was becoming increasingly distrustful of each other
as a result of the incident and the later released film that showed the altercation.
Jordan Poole saw a lot of playing time in the 2021–2022 season as star guard Klay Thompson was sidelined due to injury.
After making 51 starts, Poole led the Golden State Warriors to third place in the Western Conference
with averages of 18.5 points, 3.4 rebounds, and 4 assists. Coming off the bench, Poole scored 17 points per game throughout the
playoff run that won the championship.
The altercation, or rather a punch from Draymond Green changed the course of the Warriors 2022-23 season.
Many believed the Warriors could be back-to-back champions. However, fans, analysts, and even the team themselves admitted that the altercation changed their season for the worse.
How have Poole and the Warriors fared after their divorce?
Jordan Poole’s season with the Washington Wizards is mediocre at best. This season, he is averaging 17.2 points, 2.5 rebounds,
and 3.6 assists. That said, the Wizards have not benefited from this kind of play. With a 5-22 record, they are now the third-worst
squad in the league. Analysts have also questioned Poole’s game on multiple occasions.
To date, the Warriors’ season has likewise been unsatisfactory. With a record of 13-14, they are currently, at least temporarily, out of
the running for the playoffs in the very competitive Western Conference. On top of that, Draymond Green is presently on an indefinite
suspension. This is his third ban of the year, and the other Warriors veterans’ play has also declined noticeably.
Therefore, had he been playing for the Warriors, Poole could as well have established them as contenders. That’s certainly Steve Kerr’s
opinion, and he laments having to send the guy away in such a trying situation.
