Fabrizio Romano: Liverpool have opened talks to bring another loanee back to Anfield – report
According to an update from a trustworthy source,
Liverpool has started talks to bring a talented young player back to Anfield with Nathaniel Phillips.
Phillips might be called back to Celtic
While Phillips signed a loan with Celtic in the summer,
it is possible that FSG and manager Jurgen Klopp will recall him for a specific reason,
according to The Mirror, rather than having him stay until the end of the season.
Joel Matip’s successful operation to repair his ACL injury has been confirmed by the Reds,
but the manager may choose to hold onto the former center-back to cover in
the Premier League as there is no clear timeline for the defender’s comeback.
Fabio Carvalho was another player who temporarily left the team during the previous window.
In an effort to gain more experience and playing time,
the offensive midfielder joined RB Leipzig until the end of the season.

July 1, 2023 | Liverpool | RB Leipzig |
July 1, 2022 | Fulham | Liverpool |
July 1, 2021 | Fulham U21s | Fulham |
Having made just one start since making the transition to the Bundesliga (WhoScored – Carvalho statistics),
the Portuguese has, however, received the opposite treatment.
Unhappy with the way his spell is going, the 21-year-old may potentially return to Anfield.
Liverpool and Carvalho are negotiating.
Fabrizio Romano said on X on Wednesday that Liverpool and RB Leipzig are in
discussions regarding ending Carvalho’s loan.
However, there are rumours that the management is still debating
whether to keep Carvalho in the building or send him back out on the road for the remainder of the season.
He penned:
“EXCL: Due to a lack of playing time,
Liverpool and RB Leipzig have begun negotiations to bring back Fabio Carvalho in January.
Carvalho has only played 257 minutes overall,
therefore LFC is not satisfied with this loan.
However, he could start in the UCL tonight. The next measures will soon be decided.
There’s a true “jewel” in Klopp’s hands.
Although he may not be a regular starter,
Carvalho has shown his ability in the final third with 75 involvements, 48 goals,
and 27 assists in 161 appearances since the beginning of his youth career (Transfermarkt – Carvalho statistics).
Liverpool may be wise to bring him back in January.
The native of Torres Vedras, who is sponsored by Nike,
is a versatile player who can cover in a number of areas outside of his own.
Since entering the professional ranks, he has been used in eight different positions on the pitch,
including four roles in the midfield and all over the front line.
Football talent scout Jacek Kulig has called Carvalho an emerging “jewel.”
Chiefs should think about giving him more of an opportunity to show what he can do on
Merseyside because it would be a complete waste of time
if he was moved out on loan once more and ended up becoming a marginal player.
