Everton announce later move-in date for new £760m dockside stadium and will leave Goodison Park after 134 years
Everton has declared that instead of switching to their new stadium at Bramley-Moore Dock
midway through the season, they will play their whole schedule at Goodison Park next year.
It is still expected that the £760 million stadium will be completed by the end of 2024,
with 52,888 seats. However, Everton has decided against moving during the season.
Following fan consultation, Everton announced that they would postpone their visit to the
new arena on the Merseyside waterfront until 2025–2026 for a variety of business, logistical,
and football-related reasons. As part of their preparation, they will hold test events in front of audiences of various sizes.
Goodison Park has been Everton’s home since 1892, has staged more top-flight games
than any other ground in England and was one of the venues for the 1966 World Cup. Everton plan a
“year-long celebration” of one of the most historic grounds in the country.
“To be absolutely clear, our decision to not move in mid-season is not because of a construction delay,”
stated Colin Chong, the interim CEO of Everton. The decision was made by the club based on a variety of factors,
including business acumen, a thorough examination of the necessary logistics,
an assessment of the possible effects on our football operations, and—most importantly—fan input
gathered from our most recent stadium migration survey, which was answered by nearly 10,000 Evertons.
As planned, Everton Stadium is still expected to be finished in the last few weeks of 2024.
The 2024–2025 season is expected to be our final one at Goodison Park. Goodison will have served
as our home for almost 134 years by the time we lock the gates for good, and many
supporters telling us very clearly about their desire to make sure the Grand Old Lady gets a fitting send-off.
