As it seems, Alex Ferguson’s assessment of Aston Villa was accurate all along.

Wednesday night’s decisive victory over Manchester City allowed Unai Emery’s team to climb

to third place in the Premier League.

Villa’s home winning streak now stands at 14 games thanks to a goal from Leon Bailey in the second half,

setting a new mark for the Birmingham team.

Their 5-1 thrashing at the hands of Newcastle United on opening day feels ages ago,

and amidst their current form, former Manchester United boss Alex Ferguson’s remarks regarding

the West Midlands team have come back to light.

Ferguson predicted the Villains to perform as well as they are now on the opening day of the season,

despite having just seeing them lose by four goals, while many were quick to write them off.

“To be honest with you, I watched Aston Villa and I can’t believe the scoreline,”

he said to NBC Sports following the game. To be honest, Aston Villa played excellent football;

they simply lost due to poor goals.

“It will be very tough to defeat Newcastle, especially at home, where their manager has done an excellent job.

Football is a strange game. Aston Villa demonstrated that you may play teams off the pitch and yet fail to score.

Emery’s team appears to be gaining more attention as Pep Guardiola concedes that

Villa is competing for the championship.

“Yes, without a doubt. Because of their style of play, their intensity, their quickness, the bench, Unai Emery, their mid-block, and their set-pieces. Indeed,” he murmured.

Emery joined Villa in November 2022, having previously developed an impressive resume

at elite European clubs including PSG, Villareal, and Sevilla. Along with winning the Ligue 1 championship

with the Parisians, he won three Europa Leagues with Sevilla and another with Villareal.

His previous spell in England, where he led Arsenal to fifth place in the 2018–19 season,

wasn’t as successful. However, after 15 games this season, he has Villa playing some fantastic football,

and they are currently in third position, four points behind the leaders.
